Houston, Texas – OceanWorks International, Inc. has announced receipt of an order from Global Marine Systems Limited, (Global Marine) to supply two custom designed tools for the recovery of buried telecommunications cable to depths of up to 3 meters.
The project for the cable recovery tool DeepGrab was driven by design and development criteria from Global Marine. It was managed as a contract design and build, demonstrating Global Marine’s commitment as industry leaders by using experts to develop cutting edge technology solutions for its business. As an independent manufacturer, Oceanworks International was able to provide a turnkey design and build solution, while Global Marine exclusively owns the DeepGrab tool, and has filed for all
relevant IPR with patent offices worldwide. DeepGrab has been designed to fit a submersible trenching ROV. Essentially, the tool combines two parts, the water jetting tool for achieving penetration of the soil, and the cable recovery device itself.
The overall tool has no moving parts that penetrate the seabed, which results in the design being highly reliable. The cable recovery device is also equipped with sensors to confirm that the cable has been captured. Once the cable is latched, the cable recovery device is detached from the soil penetrating part of tool, and a lift line from the support vessel is used to raise the telecommunications cable to the seabed surface. Once the cable has been recovered to the seabed surface, standard cable maintenance/repair operations can commence.
With a total of over 70 employees located in Houston and Vancouver, BC, OceanWorks International is a key independent supplier of atmospheric diving, submarine rescue and remote tooling systems for the international oil & gas, submarine telecom and military markets.
